Communication

Communication is activity that coordinates a group. Whether it's influencing the behavior or beliefs of an individual, or creating a platform for conversation among many individuals, communication must be carefully crafted to achieve a particular goal.

CEDIM
Teaching undergraduates about the innovation process, I realized that being a professor is more about communicating than about understanding and representing the world.
Metaphors
Drawing a relationship between one thing and another is central to all communication. These examples show how to clearly show which parts are related and which ones aren't.project_index.php?tag=
Scenarios
Telling a story to put a concept in context is as important to the design process defining what the concept is. These examples show simple ways to get a concept across by focusing on the human side of the story.
Prototypes
More than just a preliminary version, prototypes are:
  • cheap and quick compared to final production, which lets us try out a large number of new ideas without risking time or money
  • models, which can be used for testing against reality in addition to communication
  • a catharsis of one\'s own ideas - once it's on paper it's easier to be objective about and let go of
  • iterative -many small improvements look like a single great innovation to anyone who has not witnessed the whole process
